Upload-this.com was a premium domain to start with, and a pleasure to design. Pure web 2.0 simplicity characterises the logo and layout, which incorporates rounded corners, illustrative icons and a bright, complimentary color scheme. A complex subject like file uploads and mirroring is easily digested with the use of informational diagrams and step-by-step AJAX transitions to lead the user through site processes, like registration and uploading files.

The SL Skin Mint is a Flash application that allows users to create custom characters for use in the open source game Second Life. Users can preview their custom avatar as they are creating it in full 3D. Once created, the avatar skin, which is a set of image files, is zipped and stored on the server for other users to browse and purchase. The e-commerce portion of the site is fueled by a credits system similar to the Linden dollar of Second Life. Users purchase credits through Paypal, then exchange credits on the site for skins.

Hardcore Paintball is a brand with a long established internet presence, being a popular forum for paintball players since 2004. It was a welcome task to help refresh the brand image, with a new take on the logo and a new look for their site. This challenge encompassed the interface design of 5 new sections of content, plus the forums, in addition to redrawing the logo in vector format, with some embellishments. I was also able to help organize the site content and structure the sitemap.

When the San Diego Ad Club needed a redesign of their current site, they turned to the students of the local Art Institute to create an original site design around their professionally designed logo. After many rounds of research, consultation and mockups, this clean, modern design was chosen to accompany their new brand image. To incorporate a touch of youthful sizzle, the logo was animated using an Actionscript tweening engine. The animation may be previewed through the launch link (site still in development.)

AI Community was a project aimed at creating a community site exclusive to the needs of Art Institute students. The features include a digital portfolio gallery, teacher ratings and a forum. There are also sections specifically geared toward getting critiques for projects by students of all majors. Where the physical campus is just a couple of buildings, the digital AI landscape has the capacity to serve not only current teachers and students, but also the thousands of already graduated AI alumni.

The Interrogation Game was developed both as a training application and as an entertaining Flash game. It incorporates recorded audio and green screened video of an actor that has been composited into a Photoshopped interrogation room environment. It is the user's task to act as the interrogating officer and determine the guilt or innocence of the interviewee based on the voice and gestural cues contained in his responses to questions. Both the case brief and the character are randomized, making the game re-playable with different results. Created as a class project for E-Learning and Entertainment Design.

Fly Me to the Moon was a swingin' 50's cocktail party themed auction held to benefit a local preschool. I was given the name of the event and examples of previous invitations to the annual event. When the swingin' alien bartender and astronaut illustration made it's debut, the planning committee came back with requests for promotional posters and more. Working to help charity events achieve their fundraising goals through successful marketing and design has always been a pleasure for me.

Texas wedding photographer Jennifer Strain needed a new look for her business cards, an updated style to reflect her thriving business and unique creative vision. Working with her already established logo, I created a playful gift-box themed card. An elegant background pattern and stitching details on the pink ribbon make this card the perfect pre-wedding present. The design is feminine, yet playful and avoids the frills that characterize wedding cliches. You can visit her site for more info here.

From package and flyer design to t-shirts, each is an opportunity to establish your brand and promote your project or business. Samples shown include work for Minneapolis band Defrost Nixon and flyers for the quarterly Register to Rock event at the Art Institute featuring the professors' band, The Floating Divs. All For the Glory was a fictional band used to mock up an "emo" style logo and CD package design.

The culinary program at the Art Institute is one of great respect and renown, and many of our young chefs go on to win culinary competitions and open their own restaurants. One opportunity to make a name for themselves comes in the form of the Iron Apprentice competition, held in San Diego annually. The students at AI made a sweep of the event in 2008, and it was the job of the Promotional Video class to edit together the raw footage of the event, add titles and burn a DVD with custom menus and a printed sleeve to disperse to the students.
